The whole shebang.
Mr. Ponte started the winery by purchasing 500 acres with his brother in 1986. Ponte has the large number of vines planted in Temecula, of all the wineries, at approximately 310 acres. They also have Toronto and Malbec planted in Argentina, as well as Vernaccia in Italy. Ponte gives you $1 in “Ponte Money” if you return bottles to recycle.
Their female winemaker is from Paso Robles joining Ponte in the last year. Their Doppietta, 50% Cab and 50% Syrah, is the bomb and their most popular wine.
Things I learned at this winery:
The Italian vintner philosophy is “wine for many.”
A magnum is the equivalent of 2 bottles.
In summer, wine tasters veer toward lighter wines. This changes in winter toward heavier, bolder wines.
